Here is a completely gratuitous picture of Chen Xiao. If you watch any of the episodes from 20 to 30, watch episode 25. Dear Elizaphantrex, I promise that it gets better after episode 3o. But I am grateful for all your help, without you I would have never gotten this far, grammatically.
It takes Dan Niang to knock some sense into a despondent Lu Zhen. Sometimes I think the side characters have the hardest job in this show. They have to herd the main character to the right conclusions. I raise my glass to Dan Niang, without you, this show might have stretched to 85 episodes, 70 of which focus on the numerous misunderstandings between Gao Zhan and Lu Zhen.
*Side note: Please welcome back my editor, Elizaphantrex!
Shen Bi is no more deluded than the Royal Concubine, but she is also more annoying in her attempts. The Royal Concubine’s unwillingness admit Gao Zhan doesn’t like her, in my opinion, is because he is the one good thing from her past life that she doesn’t want to lose. He’s the lifeline that’s made her miserable existence worthwhile all these years.
To be a Royal Woman, you must be able to withstand the pressure. To exist in the palace, you cannot just be a fragile flower but a poisonous bee – Royal Concubine.
*elizaphantrex my amazing EDITOR, when you see this message, I’m wishing you have a great time on vacation. I know you’re having lots of fun, next time you see a cutie man reading Hemingway, I call dibs. See you soon!!!!!
Lu Zhen’s road is littered with Enemies and they try their best to make sure that if she takes a step forward, then there are ways to pull her two steps back.
Shen Jia Min has more reason to hate Lu Zhen as she realises how deep Gao Zhan is in love with Lu Zhen. The Royal Concubine declares war on Gao Zhan’s heart and Shen Bi continues to be the most cloying and annoying character in this drama. Clearly, a great wall of women are being built to separate the two main characters.
If you wait long enough, good things happen. And after four relativly shitty episodes, good things start happening again. If I had to pick the best episode out of ep. 20-30 then it has to be this one. Also, Gao Zhan has an amazing SPEECH that matches the caliber of the one Lu Zhen gives in Episode 3. It’s awesome, moving, and completely on target. It’s the speech of a man who is determined that the woman he loves knows how he feels. To heck with it, everyone should know how he feels about her.
Thoughts from Elizaphantrex: Dear God! Is this the episode when the two star-crossed lovers finally communicate with one another?
For Lu Zhen the realization that Gao Zhan is forgivable and that she has been foolish comes in a cold prison, by the counsel of a dancing girl. For Gao Zhan to realize that he’s underestimated his royal brother who truly cares for him, it takes a fake poisoning and some wise words by said brother. They both are idiots and only when they talk to other people do they realize it. Ah, love, it makes fools of us all. But finally, the story is getting better. Again – thank you elizaphantrex for editing and making this post readable!!!!
Lu Zhen faces one of the toughest challenges of her time and Gao Zhan is running around trying to help her without letting people know that he’s helping her. I have to give a shout out to my editor elizaphantrex, who has grumpily agreed to edit my posts because I sometimes write like a drunken sailor.
Elizaphantrex here: Now that darling Rin Lee has introduced me, I guess I have to do my job.
Gao Zhan returns with a spoiled child who moons over his every turn and is dead set on becoming the Crown Princess. Shen Jia Min is arguably the worst character in the entire Lu Zhen story, and, to be honest, most of her schemes are so laughable that it’s almost a waste of time to go over them.
As promised, here are the rest of the recaps I’ve done so far. I LOVED 11-20, there was so much goodness in these episodes. I’ve linked the mini-recaps to my larger ones. Let me know what you think!
Lu Zhen makes sense to herself and she makes sense to everyone else, but then she does ridiculous things that do not make logical sense.
I feel that since I’m at Episode 20, this is a perfect time to do a mini-recap. It keeps my mind fresh of the story and let’s anyone who wants to watch the show keep up with what’s going on without having to go through every recap. Yes, this is the lazy man (and woman) recap. I’m also adding links to the actual episode recaps for anyone who wants a in-depth description.
Once Gao Zhan loves, he Loves. And this makes him such a good character that I want every other man in drama-dom to follow his lead. To hell with the consequences, bring on the pain, he’s committed to one woman and one woman only. However, that doesn’t mean he can forget the past between him the the Royal Concubine Xiao. But what he acknowledges and she stubbornly resists is that their story is over.
Even if a lie is pretty, lies are still lies and can cut people seven ways to sunday. Shit hits the fan in this episode and the reverberations of Gao Zhan’s deceit shakes Lu Zhen to her very core. Yes people, this is the episode that most of us, whether consciously or subconsciously, have been waiting for. This is the episodes where Lu Zhen learns the truth about the man who she thought Gao Zhan was.
